Psoriasis & smoking

Smoking cigarettes increases the risk for developing plaque psoriasis, and for palmoplantar pustulosis where bumps filled with fluid appear on the hands and feet. This risk seems to increase the more people smoke.

Smoking cigarettes also appears to increase the severity of psoriasis, with psoriasis becoming worse the more someone smokes.

If you have psoriasis and you smoke cigarettes, cutting down how much you smoke may help to reduce your symptoms, and cutting cigarettes out completely should help even more.
