Psoriasis & alcohol

Alcohol appears to affect the immune system and the blood vessels under the skin. This may be why drinking alcohol excessively when you have psoriasis has been linked with:

  • More severe psoriasis
  • Wider coverage over your body
  • More inflamed skin
  • Flare-ups
  • Resistance to certain treatments
  • Difficulty taking medication or applying creams to your skin as regularly as you should

If you drink alcohol, and particularly if it is excessive or problematic, cutting down your consumption and finding other ways to cope with stress or to enjoy yourself may help to reduce your symptoms, or reduce how often your psoriasis flares up.
